London Marathon a runaway success

RUNNERS in the London Marathon 2011 raised £51.8 million for charity. More than 80 per cent of those who took part in the annual event did it for good causes. Virgin Money, which sponsored the event, revealed that runners who set up fundraising pages in 2010 raised on average £1511 for charity and those who started fundraising in 2011 raised £1,374. A total of 364,500 donations for the Marathon were received through virginmoneygiving.com.
