What has the world come to? A politician and a celebrity chef have both condemned the employment prospects of British young people by saying they lack the work ethic required to succeed in today’s job market. Nick Hurd, Conservative minister for civil society, said young people lack “grit”, effectively social skills and discipline, while Jamie Oliver said foreign workers were far more able and competent compared to their British “wet behind the ears” counterparts. Are our young people’s attitudes today worse than previous generations or are they being made convenient scapegoats for a failed economy?
